About Bay Village
Bay Village is Boston’s smallest neighborhood, yet it offers a sense of charm and intimacy that truly sets it apart. Tucked between the Back Bay, Theater District, and South End, the area feels like a quiet residential pocket in the heart of the city. Originally created by landfill in the 1820s, Bay Village has a rich history and has been known by several different names over time, including the Church Street District and South Cove.
The neighborhood is defined by its picturesque streets and classic townhouses, many of which resemble smaller scale versions of Beacon Hill homes. This architectural continuity reflects the craftsmanship of early builders who settled here and gives Bay Village its timeless, cohesive character.
Despite its small footprint, Bay Village enjoys a highly central location near restaurants, theaters, and cultural attractions. The neighborhood is conveniently served by nearby MBTA stations including Arlington and Boylston on the Green Line, as well as Tufts Medical Center and Back Bay on the Orange Line, offering easy access throughout the city while maintaining a distinctly residential feel.
